THE OST

Sick-Ass Beats to Beat Sick Asses to

The music is basically the only reason I know this game exists. You will listen to it, and you will enjoy it. Consider this a threat.

Library of Ruina features several (five (5(५))) lyrical lore-appropriate boss battle themes, each of which depict the boss' backstory (usually losing a loved one and being generally unhappy about it) and emotions (basically always sorrow) in its own unique way. Great for drowning out the unceasing voices!

And this is not even counting the various instrumental themes for the rest of the battles! The system that decides which instrumental theme plays at what time is so fucked up it took me several of hours of gameplay to understand.

...anyway here are the boss battle songs:

Lovetown

Song Name: From a Place of Love

Genre: PTSD

A beautiful and innocent song for the story of a couple, the genre of which devolves quickly from "Love" to "Lovecraftian" in the span of one visual novel cutscene. I still get nightmares about this storyline! :D
Fun fact: For a long while, the game wiki page for this battle was just the text "we don't talk about Lovetown".

The Crying Children

Song Name: And Then is Heard No More

Genre: Cope

The Song of a maidenless soyboy who somehow runs away and survives like the first four times he battles you, and wishes he'd died each time afterwards.
Fun fact: This fight was the reason I had "kill more crying children" written in my notes.

Xiao

Song Name: Iron Lotus

Genre: FIRE

Theme for a w*man who just wants to avenge her dead husband. If being cute was a crime, Xiao would be in jail; for twelve charges of manslaughter via arson.
Fun fact: Despite the song's theming about rage and fire this is the only boss that is fully sane and in control of her emotions during the fight.

Distorted Yan

Song Name: Children of the City

Genre: JEE

Based man concludes free will doesn't exist, breaks into local library for shits and giggles because a piece of paper told him to. Truly a masterpiece of storytelling.
Fun fact: The line in the song "By the time you realise, you'll be restrained to a desk / And with your dreams on the floor your comply, eyes chained to the test" really resonates with me for some reason, not quite sure why though.

The Black Silence

Song Name: Gone Angels

Genre: Depression

Fun fact: There's a lore reason for why the only instrument in the song is a piano.

Your Thoughts: Survey

It goes without saying really but I'm sure by now you're too convinced that Library of Ruina has the greatest OST ever conceived. To be sure, though, we are hosting a survey, and would like you to fill in the form below as truthfully as possible! 😇
